A Tribute to the King of Pop: Azam Khan

Whenever we think of Pop music, one name comes to our mind- Azam Khan, the Guru of Pop music in Bangladesh. We call him ”Pop Somrat”. The legendary pop singer passed away on 5th June, 2011, but he is still alive amongst the music-lovers of Bangladesh. We will never forget this generous artist.
I, personally have two different memories about him. At the age of 9, I first listened his legendary song “Bangladesh (Rail liner oi bostite)”. From then its became my favorite song. When I was 14 years old, me and some of my friends were about to form a band. I was selected as the vocalist. When I was tested and I tried with my favorite song of him, one of the judges, Aminul Vai told me “Do you know, whom song are you singing?” I replied ”Azam Khan”. He said “Songs are sang from heart, not from your lungs. Learn to sing until you can do that. Then become the vocalist.”
From then to till now, I learned a lot and felt how Azam Khan sang.
Second experience was touchier. It was our college “Fresher’s day”. Azam Khan was invited there to entertain us. He was honored with a gold me`dal by our principal. At first, he sang with normal voice, but after sometime music got him. He opened the buttons of his shirt off, recalled his magical tone and sang “Bangladesh”. I can still visualize the picture and feel the emotion of that tone.
Today, I’m here to share my tribute to this legendary pop singer. I’ve decorated this post with his last interview to media, View of one of his band members, some renowned songs and with some memorable photos of him.

Thought of June'12 - "World Peace"

World peace!  Wanted by everybody, but nobody knows how to acquire it.

We human beings are not more than a beast inside. Everybody has a heart, a conscience - a court of self-judgment; but a few of us use it. A World, which is the sum of more than 7 billions of people, with only 10% having conscience, finding peace in it is like finding a needle in a haystack. In developed counties, (like USA, UK, Germany, Canada, France, etc.) peace means a different thing that of a third-world country (like Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Nepal, etc.). Economic consistencies, cultural growth, domination over minor countries are some of the peace factors of developed countries, where supply of daily necessities, keeping cultural identity alive and managing financial help from developing countries refers to peace in third-world countries.

Dark Energy, Dark Matter

In the early 1990's, one thing was fairly certain about the expansion of the Universe. It might have enough energy density to stop its expansion and recollapse, it might have so little energy density that it would never stop expanding, but gravity was certain to slow the expansion as time went on. Granted, the slowing had not been observed, but, theoretically, the Universe had to slow.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids May Not Benefit Everyone's Heart

Ingredients in fish oil widely considered to have heart-healthy powers may not deliver in some people. People with type 2 diabetes, including many with a history of heart disease or hypertension, don’t seem to get a cardiovascular benefit from omega-3 fatty acids, the key ingredients in fish oil, researchers report June 11 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Wonders of Islam

"Islam" - which means peace. Today Islam is the only hope under which people can take breath is this windy atmosphere of unrest. Almighty Allah has gifted us with Islam and taught us “Dawah”. We will continue our “Dawah” normally- is right and no prophet will come after Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)- is also right. Then how a non-muslim will believe? Who will show the “Mazizah”? Allah Rabbul Alamin himself has taken care of this “Mazizah” to show. He himself has spread the signs of his immense pride throughout the world. I just put here some of those signs.

"Nandito Narake" by Humayun Ahmed

Humayun Ahmed. According to some people he is a fabulous fiction writer and according to others he is a characterless Corinthian. What really he is, is not our topic today. He got one extra-ordinary attribute and that is the power of attracting a reader by his magical writing. Now a days, general readers’ have a complain about his writings that it is becoming boring and flat. Therefore, today I’m going to present a wonderful novel of him, his first published book – “Nandito Narake”. The book is amazing! If it does not, however, he could not come up with yet. About this book, former famous authors had made several positive comments. I’ve posted the image previews of those comments, too. I cannot but saying another thing that these e-book have been taken from his first edition. Thank you and enjoy.

How to tie a tie easily?

The Windsor knot (also known as the Full Windsor or the Double Windsor) is a wide and respected tying method. The Windsor knot shape is a relatively big, triangular and fully symmetric, providing a representative & confident look. The Windsor knot mostly used for formal occasions. The Windsor knot will be perfect for spread collar shirts and thin fabric materials because of the big knot created. Because of the Wide Knot shape, the tie tends to deemphasize the look of a long neck and therefore will look fabulous for these people.

The Marriage Benefit

“Marriage is sort of like a life preserver or a seat belt,” University of Chicago sociologist Linda Waite, Ph.D., author of The Case for Marriage, told The New York Times. “We can put it in exactly the same category as eating a good diet, getting exercise, and not smoking.”

Marriage helps health most when couples imitate each others healthy habits. When Brigham Young University researchers checked up on 4,746 married couples ages 51 to 61, they found that couples are mirrors when it comes to health status: A man in his early 50s in excellent health had a very low chance of having a wife in fair or poor health. But if the man’s health was poorer, the chance of his wife being in fair or poor health increased. Why? Couples live in the same environments when it comes to food, exercise, and stress reduction. They also share emotional stresses.

Healthy living is a win-win choice for married couples. You not only improve your individual health and longevity, you also create wonderful opportunities to do things together.

Read on for the eight ways you can use your relationship to give your physical well-being a big boost.

Past and Present of Apurba-Prova

Sadia Jahan Prova, the name that reminds us about the second big infamous scandal of Bangladesh Media. Most of us have seen the video clip and got weird amusement. But, have we ever thought of the case inside? Have we thought why Apurba married Prova though he knew everything and why he divorced her after a few days?
Shortly after the amazing marriage of Apurba-Prova, they were in a live interview on ATN Bangla. Whoever had watched that may become confused why the divorce came up? We all thought Apurba a saint. Where the magnanimity gone?
The justification is upto you. And to make your justification easier I’ve posted a few newspapers cutting (in Bengali) and the live interview. Thank you & enjoy.

Our "Mother"

We, the booklovers, have read “Mother” of Maxim Gorky. But, do we know we have our own “Mother” in Bengali literature? I’m talking about “Mother” – the novel written by Anisul Haque. I’m talking about the mother of Martyr Azad. She is not among us anymore, but her epitaph says only a few words “Mother of Martyr Azad”. She doesn’t need any other identity, she doesn’t need it at all.

I’ve posted the link for the PDF image of the book and previews of some interesting pages.

How to Identify Counterfeit Money?

Though it is said that “Money is the root of all evil”, nevertheless it is worth to admit that money is the friend of odd times. Money can save us from any economic problem or hazard. But sometimes money not only saves us from danger but also puts us on danger. Especially when the money is counterfeit. It doesn’t matter from where you got the counterfeit money. The matter is who got the counterfeit money. Law is enforced against him if he fails to prove himself not guilty. That means, carrying counterfeit money is a cause of unwanted harassment. We should be careful when taking handover of bank notes to avoid this type of harassment. We should crosscheck the bank note to find out if it is original or counterfeit. In Bangladesh, bank notes of Tk. 100, Tk. 500 and Tk. 1000 are counterfeited than any other bank notes. Therefore, we should check the security signs of these bank notes while transacting. Keep in mind that, bank note of Tk. 500 has 11 security signs while bank note of Tk. 1000 has 13 security signs. I’ve posted the image files of those security signs and a video clip as well so that you could learn how to check security signs of a bank note.

How to defeat a ATM robber

When a robber forced you to take money from the ATM booth, do not argue or fight or resist. You might not know what he/she might do to you. What you should do is to input your PIN number in the reverse.

Example: If your PIN number is 4567, you input it to ATM as 7654.

The moment you type in the reverse, the cash will come out, but will be stuck into the machine half way out and it will alert the police without the notice of the robber.

Every ATM has this facility. It is specially made to signify danger and help. Not everyone is aware of this.

SpaceX Dragon capsule heading back to Earth

Space Exploration Technologies' Dragon spaceship was poised to wrap up a pioneering test flight, the first by a private company to the International Space Station, and head back to Earth on Thursday.

Dragon became the first privately owned vehicle to reach the $100 billion research complex, a project of 15 countries, on Friday when astronauts used the station's robot arm to pluck it from orbit and latch it onto a berthing port as the spacecraft sailed about 250 miles (402 km) above the planet.

The bell-shaped capsule, which was partly financed by NASA, was scheduled to be detached from the station at 4:05 a.m. EDT (0805 GMT) on Thursday and released from the station's crane about 90 minutes later. Splashdown in the Pacific Ocean about 564 miles (907 km) southwest of Los Angeles is expected at 11:44 a.m. EDT (1544 GMT).
